The 52 year-old was last seen leaving home yesterday morning - but he never showed-up at his current base, the BBC studios on Whiteladies Road.
The popular former ITV Westcountry presenter, has been described as vulnerable by Police this morning.
Officers say Rowell is suffering from depression after a death in the family - his car was found not far from his home in Wickwar yesterday - at the Morrison's supermarket in Yate.
Social networks have been set up as friends and colleagues join the search for him - on twitter look for #helpfindpeter
But as well as not being able to be contacted, it's believed Peter also deleted his own Facebook and Twitter profiles.
Peter is described as 5ft 10ins tall and of stocky build. He is possibly wearing brown coloured jeans and a white shirt.
He is thought to be depressed, following the death of a close relative.
Police would like Peter, or anyone spotting him to contact them. Anyone with information is asked to contact Staple Hill police station on 0845 4567000.
