#Obama calls Cameron on ratification of defense treaty

WASHINGTON, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Barack Obama on Thursday called British Prime Minister David Cameron on the ratification of a defense treaty between the United States and Britain, which facilitates the trade of defense articles, the White House said in a statement.

The White House said the passage of the treaty is evidence of the "broad, bipartisan support that undergirds the special relationship" between the two countries.

Obama said the treaty will create jobs in both countries and further deepen bilateral ties, said the statement.

The U.S. Senate on late Wednesday ratified the long-delayed Defense Trade Cooperation Treaties with Britain and Australia, which allow the export or transfer of many defense articles and defense services without export licenses.
