Comedian Greg Giraldo dead after drug overdose

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Comedian Greg Giraldo died Wednesday at age 44, five days after being hospitalized for what celebrity media reported was a prescription drug overdose.

Producers for the NBC TV show "Last Comic Standing", where Giraldo was a judge, confirmed celebrity media reports that the stand-up comic had died in New Jersey.

"Greg was one of the most talented comedians of our time. He was truly brilliant. His work will surely continue to influence and inspire us. We will miss our friend. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family," the statement said.
