Libyan
Prime Minister Mahmoud Jibril announced that Muammar Gaddafi has been
killed. "We have been waiting for this moment for a long time. Moammar
Gadhafi has been killed,” he said at a news conference in
Tripoli. Details about Gaddafi’s death are still emerging. The Telegraph
reports that a convoy carrying the ousted ruler tried to escape after
being surrounded by Libyan forces in Sirte. The group then parked west
of the town, which was hit by a NATO airstrike, and fled into a drain
below the road, where they were captured or killed by Libyan forces. The
U.S. has yet to confirm Gaddafi’s death, but Hillary Clinton said that
"If they [the NTC] know that he is no longer a threat to them I think
that will actually ease the transition process to a new government."
