Grandfather of Sean Goldman dies at 65

Silvana Bianchi said her husband was "very sad" from the grandson

The maternal grandfather of Sean Goldman, Raimundo Ribeiro, died late on Monday (21), at 65, in Rio de Janeiro. The case of the boy, the son of American father, won the spotlight because of his legal fight for custody of him, between his father's family in Brazil and the USA.

In an interview given to R7, Sean's grandmother, Silvana Bianchi, Raymond Ribeiro said he was suffering from lung cancer and was hospitalized for 40 days in the hospital Copa D'Or, in Rio de Janeiro.

Sean currently lives with his father, David Goldman, USA, since January and her grandfather has no contact with her grandson, which may have worsened his health situation. "He was very hurt, very sad he died because of it," said the boy's grandmother.

According to Silvana Bianchi, the last contact with Sean's family in Brazil took place on December 24 last year. "After that we had denied a request to visit the most absurd way possible," said the boy's grandmother to R7.

A U.S. court ruled in February this year, Sean's maternal grandparents could not see the boy for not meeting the conditions imposed by the boy's father. Raimundo Ribeiro's funeral took place at 14h this Tuesday night at Memorial Cemetery of Mount Caramel in the neighborhood of Caju, Rio de Janeiro.

Sean spent five years in Brazil since his mother, Bruna Bianchi, brought the U.S. in 2004. In 2008, Bruna died from complications in childbirth giving birth to a girl, the result of another marriage.

The feud between the family of David and Bruna Bianchi Goldman began when she came to the country with the boy, claiming he would be 15 days with his parents, but ended up staying in Rio de Janeiro and filed for divorce from husband American.
