FARC attack candidate governor in south-east Colombia

A candidate governor in the south eastern Guaviare department was injured on Sunday after alleged guerrillas of the FARC attacked his election caravan in an apparent attempt to kidnap the politician.
Guerrillas ambushed the caravan that was taking conservative politician Jose Perez Restrepo, his wife and a number of bodyguards.
The driver of the candidate governor was killed in the attack.
According to media reports, the politician was already taken captive by the rebels, but was released by policemen and soldiers who had come to the rescue.
The Guaviare department is one of the departments where there is a high presence of guerrilla forces.
