The war between Charlie Sheen and his ex-wife Brooke Mueller has now spilt over to the estranged couple's in-laws.

According to reports, Mueller's stepfather Jon Fiore says Charlie's mother Janet Templeton sent out a group email condemning his step-daughter.

In the explosive memo, he says Templeton claims that she 'always knew that Brooke would be the downfall of her son.'

Now Fiore has hit back in defence of Brooke, and told website Radaronline that Templeton's 'accusations are misplaced' and that Charlie should take responsibility for his own wild behaviour.

'It’s a shame that she would blame a family member for her son’s demise,' Fiore told Radaronline.

“He is an adult and is responsible for himself.'

The dispute was apparently started by an outsider close to the Muller clan: Donald Trump.

The 64-year-old entrepreneur went on ABC news earlier this month telling how he warned Mueller's parents not to let their daughter marry Charlie.

'I told [Brooke's] parents "Don’t let your daughter marry [Charlie]"' he said in the interview.

'I think he’s wonderful but I think he’s a disaster. Don’t let your daughter marry him!'

Reportedly the remarks spawned Templeton to send out the group email in defence of her 45-year-old son.

'The Donald is spreading such vicious lies about Charlie, is there anyway to stop him? Brooke (Mueller) had been to 13 rehabs before meeting Charlie,' it read.

'She drank and drugged during pregnancy and had such a party girl rep before she met him.'

The explosive email went on to allude that it was Brooke that got Charlie hooked back on drugs and accused her of enjoying Sheen's demise.

'Donald has gone on national TV twice to say that Charlie brought [Brooke] into this scene. Actually he had been sober for some time before her met her and we were convinced she would be his downfall,' she wrote.

'She is only happy when she knows he is in trouble or miserable. She is so very sick.'

Inevitably hurt by Templeton's remarks about their daughter, who is currently the main carer for Charlie's two-year-old twin sons, Max and Bob, the couple say they will take the moral high ground.

'We never say anything against her son in the press, we have only been quiet through everything Charlie has done,' Fiore told RadarOnline.com

'Janet needs to support the mother of her grandchildren, the way that we have supported the father of our grandchildren.'

And despite the cruel remarks about Brooke, her parents say they still have sympathy for Charlie's mother.

'It must be tough to watch her son, someone she loves so much deteriorate and break down in front of her eyes,' he said.

'Charlie’s mom is showing the stress of watching her son meltdown in front of the world.

'Clearly she is under a lot of pressure and our hearts go out to her.'

Charlie's father Martin Sheen said back in February that he will be supporting his son with prayer.

' We lift him up and we ask everyone who cares about him to lift him up, and lift up all those who are in the grip of drug and alcohol abuse, because they are looking for transcendence,' he told UK's Sky News.

Recently a restraining order preventing Charlie from seeing the twins has been dropped.

Brooke obtained the order stripping Sheen of custody of their sons on March 1.

The order expired this week and Brooke hasn't yet stated whether or not she will not extend it.

She took action after the actor made death threats against her in one of his live streams.

But earlier this month the former couple reached a confidential settlement over their custody battle.

TMZ has also reported that he has passed the drug test that both he and Brooke underwent as part of the custody agreement.

Sheen was fired from Two and A Half Men, the most-watched TV comedy in the United States, on March 7 after a stream of public insults towards its producer, Chuck Lorre.

Earlier, the actor had been the subject of numerous media reports about his wild partying, and he spent time in drug and alcohol rehab, leading Warner Bros. Television, which makes Two and A Half Men, to call Sheen's conduct 'dangerously self-destructive'.
