From Glee to Shining Glee

It was hilarious hearing Jane Lynch's Sue Sylvester channeling Camille Paglia celebrating the dominatrix talon grip Madonna has had on pop culture ever since she sashayed out of the manger, the triple-decker take on "Like a Virgin" was inspired, and the "Vogue" homage-parody was a satin-silver triumph, but the pacing on last night's Glee Madonna power hour special was a little too pell-pell, the storytelling a bit disjointed and lopsided (why not at least one character who was Madonna-antagonistic or agnostic?--the uniform hosannas to female empowerment sounded like infomercial endorsements), and some of Madonna's later songs were too hook-deficient and generic to serve as anthemic production numbers. It was a fun episode (word of a sequel is already out), full of cracking Sue Sylvester classics, but it's the return of Kristin Chenoweth next week that really has me jazzercized.

Though the Madonna episode will be rerun of Fox tomorrow night for those who missed part of it because that stupid American Idol ran long.
