EA Inc. this week said Battlefield 3 for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3, Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360, and the PC has sold five million units in the first week of availability.
The figure ranks as the fastest-selling title in EA history.
The company said server uptime for online matches held at 98.9 percent. It said disruption of services was due to high volume.
Battlefield 3, which began sale Oct. 25, includes the Frostbite 2 engine, online vehicle warfare with land, sea, and air vehicles, and combat across the U.S., Europe, and Middle East.
Developer DICE in Oct. said it would perform server maintenance to improve stability for all platforms and disabled online connectivity for a limited period.
EA in Oct. released an update to the Battlefield 3 Multiplayer Beta, which included a fixed occasional client crash, fixed killcam showing glitched area under map, fixed spawning on dead squad mates, and framerate stability fixes.
Sony in Aug. price cut the PS3 160GB SKU to $249.99.
In addition, the PS3 320GB Move Bundle now sells at $349.99.
The new Playstation 3 320GB Infamous 2 Bundle includes the PS3 320GB hardware SKU, Infamous 2, a 30-day Playstation Plus trail membership and Dualshock 3 Controller at $299.99.
Finally, the Playstation 3 320GB Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception Bundle sells at $299.99
The Xbox 360 250GB Holiday Value Bundle includes the Xbox 360 250GB hardware SKU, Fable III, Halo: Reach Digital Download, and 3-Month Xbox Live Gold Card at $299.99.
The Xbox 360 250GB Holiday Bundle Value with Kinect includes the Xbox 360 250GB hardware SKU, Kinect sensor, Kinect Adventure, Carnival Games Digital Download, and 3-Month Xbox Live Gold Card at $399.99.
Microsoft in Sept. began sale of the limited edition Xbox 360 320GB Gears of War 3 Bundle at $399.99.
The Xbox 360 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Bundle, to be sold Nov. 8, will include an Xbox 360 320GB SKU with custom Modern Warfare 3 graphics and sounds, two custom wireless controllers, special Avatar items, Black Wired Headset, and a copy of Modern Warfare 3 at $399.99.
In 2012 it will sell the Xbox 360 Limited Edition Star Wars Kinect Bundle at $449.99.
