A 14 year old grandson of former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva received a diplomatic passport on December 29, two days of the end of the mandate of PT, according to a report published on Friday (7) by the newspaper Folha de S. Paulo "

The newspaper said the granting of a diplomatic passport to the grandson of Lula against internal rule of the Foreign Ministry. Claudio Luis Lula da Silva, 25, and Marcos Claudio da Silva, 39, son of former President Lula, and the bishop of the Church Universal Romualdo Panceiro Son also received the benefit, said the publication.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed the G1 that the grant of diplomatic passports was "based on current legislation."

Decree 5978 of December 2006, regulating the granting of the document ensures the benefit of a diplomatic passport to presidents, vice presidents, cabinet ministers, parliamentarians, heads of diplomatic missions, ministers of higher courts and ex-presidents.

Spouses and dependents up to 21 years (24 years if they are students) or disabled are also entitled to a passport.

According to the report, the grandson of former president does not meet the requirements, according to the decree, to receive the diplomatic passport.

According to the decree, the Minister of Foreign Affairs can authorize the dispatch of a diplomatic passport "in exceptional cases" and "function of interest in the country."

Based on this prerogative that the then Minister Celso Amorim gave his diplomatic passport to the grandson of Lula.

Amorim also granted the renewal of the diplomatic passport Claudio Luis Lula da Silva, 25, and Marcos Claudio da Silva, 39, son of former President Lula.

They also did not fulfill the requirements, according to the decree, to receive the passport diplomático.O Foreign Ministry did not explain why the grant of diplomatic passports to two sons and grandson of former President Lula is in the interest of the country.

The validity of a diplomatic passport issued to two sons and grandson of Lula is four years from the date of issue. Thus, throughout the government Rousseff, they have access to the queue with separate entrance and more lenient treatment in countries with which Brazil has diplomatic ties.

In some countries requiring a visa, the diplomatic passport makes him expendable. The document is issued at no cost to the authority and their dependents.

Universal
According to the report, the bishop of the Church Universal Romualdo Panceiro son also received a diplomatic passport. The document was issued, also "exceptionally" in February 2010, valid for one year. In response to the newspaper, the bishop said that "the most appropriate answer is the Foreign Ministry itself."

Appointed as successor of Edir Macedo, Panceiro is responsible for the congregation in Latin America. The application for the grant of diplomatic passports, the report said, would have left Senator Marcelo Crivella (PRB-RJ), a parliamentary ally of the base.

AFTER A full month of extensive media blitz and a mega public relations campaign to draw an expected 20,000 persons inside Sabina Park in Kingston to 'follow the star' at Friday's watch night service, The Universal Church of the Kingdom of God wanted the media out.

The Sunday Gleaner photographer who attempted to capture images of the intriguing service was escorted off the field. He was commanded to erase all the photographs taken, and was ordered to leave the venue by security guards.

The security guard who allowed him access was then sternly reprimanded.

Denied access at two separate points by the security, this Sunday Gleaner reporter eventually made her way in and sat in the audience. During the huge church service, this reporter asked several of the many attendants the name of the preacher, but was repeatedly asked why she wanted to know.

At the risk of 'getting in trouble', one member eventually whispered that it was Bishop Claudio Botelho, a Brazilian who heads the local operations.

Evil Forces

Busloads of persons gathered inside Sabina Park to cast out all the 'evil forces' of 2010 and claim deliverance from all infirmities, blessings and good fortunes for 2011.

The bishop had the congregation at his will as they obeyed his every command, whether placing hands on heart, above their heads or on top of their heads, reciting in unison the words he uttered.

Their chorus voices rang out with such gusto and depth of belief, it could be heard in surrounding communities.

The bishop called down the spiritual fire inside Sabina Park as several persons got into the spirit to cast out their 2010 demons.

"You cannot start the new year with old problems," he told them.

Following his instructions to write the names of their family members on white flags and curse the bad then claim a blessing for them, hundreds of persons then waved the flags in earnest as they claimed their blessings.

Replica of Solomon's Temple

With plans to construct a three-storey cathedral in Half-Way Tree, St Andrew, this year, valued at US$200 million, this megachurch is expected to replicate the 10,000-seat great Solomon's Temple. Persons were asked to line up and place their offerings toward the construction on a Bible as pastors anointed their hands with a special oil of blessing.

"If you have $10,000, $5,000, $1,000, bring it," the bishop told them.

With not many persons moving to form the lines, he lowered the figure to $500 or $100, then the lines got much longer. Eventually, it was announced that if they didn't have anything to still go and get their oil of anointing in their hands for the blessing.

"We are not here to take from you, but to give you a blessing," the bishop said.

The Jamaica cathedral is in keeping with the US$200-million megachurch 10,000-seat replica of the great Solomon's Temple that the headquarters church is planning to construct in the city of Sao Paulo, Brazil, within the next four years.

"Expect to reap from the seed sown today in the new year," the bishop told them, as one by one they gave to the building of the temple.

Then, in 'cult-like' fashion, they got a piece of bread to be blessed three times and brought with them on Sunday morning to any Universal Church, before it could be eaten.

The stroke of midnight caught the united congregation invoking the Holy Spirit in prayer and song.

They closed off the prayer vigil with a circle on the field of the pastors and volunteers, all in white T-shirts, joining hands in prayer.

Pastor Algon Salmon, president for the Universal Church told The Sunday Gleaner that he was unaware the any media was barred from the service, while at the same time saying The Sunday Gleaner should have followed the proper channels and sought permission to take photos and cover the function.

A representative from their office yesterday, regarding the treatment of the media, said they had nothing to hide. In fact, we were told that Bishop Botelho would be happy to speak with us and were asked for our number. However, up to press time, he still had not called.

She wanted to know who could have blocked out the media, as they only operate on the bishop's instructions.

In defining what 'follow the star' was about, she said it was in relation to the birth of Jesus when the wise men were told to follow the star to find the Saviour.

"To follow the star is to follow the Holy Spirit in the right path. We teach how to put your life in the right way to serve God, not the devil."

Concern

Pastors across Jamaica have expressed concern about the Universal Church, considered one of the fastest-growing church groups in Jamaica since setting up operations in the early 1990s. There are now 24 branches islandwide, with their headquarters on Hagley Park Road, St Andrew.

The Universal Church of the Kingdom of God was formed in 1977 in Brazil. It has since spread to more than 100 countries. According to some reports, the church has a global membership of six million. Its founder is Bishop Edir Macedo.

Pastor Charles Francis of the Faith United Church of God, Mandela Terrace in Kingston, considers very suspicious, the Universal Church's attempt to block out the media.

"Christ ran a public ministry, but the Universal Church operates like an illuminati or Free Masonry, with a lot of secrecy. Normally, when you see sects like these not wanting to highlight what they are doing, they tend to be involved in dark deeds," said Pastor Francis.

"If they were doing what was in line with the scripture then why block out the media? The media would give them the perfect opportunity to evangelise and spread the gospel. The big question is what is so secret that the media can't highlight it."

Francis said he had become more and more suspicious of their practices and activities as they began to take deeper root in Jamaica. "Asking for money for certain deliverance, things like that, just isn't biblical, they just don't seem to be in line with the scripture," he said.

"There are too many stories from persons in the church who say that their practice is that the amount of blessings you get is based on the amount of money you give," said the pastor.

The Universal Church's popular Chain of Prayer is one of their hallmarks. Anecdotal stories abound how persons have turned over vast possessions to the church with the hope and promise of getting it back tenfold.

"They do have a large following, but people seem to be drawn to them because of the prosperity promise, not to serve God. Their common reason for calling persons is either to relieve them from misery, poverty, bad relationships … always something that the people need," said Francis.
