6.2-magnitude earthquake hits Alaska

BEIJING, July 17 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale jolted Alaska of the United States at 3:59 a.m. Sunday Beijing Time, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.

The epicenter, with a depth of 30 km, was determined to be at 54.9degrees north latitude and 161.4 degrees west longitude.

5.0-magnitude quake hits Kermadec Islands region -- USGS

HONG KONG, July 17 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale jolted Kermadec Islands region at 21:54:07 GMT on Saturday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The epicenter, with a depth of 20.10 km, was initially determined to be at 29.7653 degrees south latitude and 176.9071 degrees west longitude.
