#news : TeliaSonera launches first commercial 4G network in Finland

HELSINKI, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- According to a statement issued by Nordic telecommunications operator TeliaSonera, the company launched the first commercial 4G mobile communications networks in the Finnish capital Helsinki and southern city Turku on Tuesday.

The networks in Turku and Helsinki operate in the 2.6 GHz frequency band. However, future expanding will be focused on building 4G in the 1.8 GHz frequency. TeliaSonera believes that once there are modems available for both frequencies, the 4G services can be expanded significantly in Finland.

The so-called 4G networks are the fastest mobile communication technology currently, promising many times faster transmission speed than the widely used 3G networks. With 4G networks, end users can connect their smart phone or laptop to Internet with super-fast mobile data transmission rate which enables high capacity services, such as video, interactive TV, video conference, professional and business services.

"The explosive growth of mobile broadband shows that the demand for bandwidth is unlimited, and with 4G we can offer more speed and capacity for mobile data," said Marek Hintze, head of TeliaSonera's Mobility Services in Finland.

TeliaSonera already launched 4G network services in Sweden and Norway about a year ago, which made TeliaSonera the first operator in the world to launch 4G commercially
