Russian jetliner makes emergency landing in depature airport

MOSCOW, June 8 (Xinhua) -- A Russian jetliner with 126 people on board made an emergency landing on Monday in its departure airport in Siberia, Russian media reported on Tuesday.

The Boeing 737-400 aircraft of the Russian carrier Transaero was forced to land after its landing gear caught fire during takeoff, according to the RIA Novosti news agency. No one was harmed during the incident.

A Transaero spokesman later confirmed that a fire alarm was heard on the plane at the time, but denied that actually was a fire.

To ensure safe landing, the plane circled over Novosibirsk for about two hours to burn out extra fuel.

The aircraft was bound for Moscow, carrying 120 passengers and six crew members. After the emergency landing, Transaero dispatched another flight to pick up the passengers. The incident is now under investigation.
