2 Men Convicted Of Stealing Food From Kansas

Two men have been convicted of conspiring to steal pallets of food from the Tyson Foods warehouse in the Kansas City suburb of Olathe and transport them to Arkansas.

U.S. Attorney Lanny Welch said Monday in a news release that 49-year-old Alvin A. Martin, of Pearl, Miss., and 34-year-old Taff Virden, of Woodson, Ark., are scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 24.

Federal grand jurors in Kansas City, Kan., convicted both men of one count of conspiracy to conceal the crime of interstate transportation of stolen property.

The release said that Martin drove a truck filled with food to Arkansas and delivered it to Virden.

Prosecutors said they conspired with a shift supervisor for Tyson who is awaiting sentencing for concealing a felony.

Three other people also are awaiting sentencing in a related case.
