Pakistan not serious in agreements: Iran

ISLAMABAD (Online) - Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Mashallah Shakiri on Wednesday again made it clear that Iran had completed all homework on projects for providing gas and power to Pakistan on emergency basis but the lukewarm attitude of the Pakistani officials caused delay in carrying out the projects.
Shakiri expressed these views while addressing in a seminar held under the aegis of Institute of Policies Studies here on Wednesday. Iran had renewed its offer to Pakistan to get cheap electricity on urgent basis in the wake of worsening power crisis, he said.
The Iranian ambassador said Pakistani officials were yet to respond to the offer. “In energy field, Iran and Pakistan have made several deals including the supply of 80MW of electricity for Balochistan and 100MW of power for Gwadar Port,” he said.
Shakri said despite Indian withdrawal from the deal, Iran went ahead with the project for Pakistan and laid a 1000-km long gas pipeline without waiting for the completion of legal procedures. “It now depends upon Pakistani officials to step up the work for supply of gas,” the Iranian envoy stressed.
Talking on the issue of terrorism, he said like Pakistan, Iran too had become a target of the said menace and both the countries must chalk out strategy to eliminate it. We want to see Pakistan strong without giving her financial support, he argued.
