The Executive Branch in Brazil is currently composed of 24 ministries, eight departments of the presidency has ministerial rank and six agencies with ministerial status. [1] Each ministry is responsible for a specific area and is led by a minister. The ministers are chosen by the President to each office, which is currently in Brazil for four years.

Among the respective Ministries and Local Authorities that make up the Federal Government, the oldest is Justice, created on July 3, 1822, at Prince Regent Peter, named Secretary of State for Affairs of Justice. Ministers assist the President in the exercise of executive power. The Foreign Relations, for example, assists in the formulation and execution of Brazilian foreign policy.

Ministries prepare standards, monitor and evaluate federal programs, formulate and implement policies for the sectors they represent. They are responsible also to establish strategies, policies and priorities in the application of public resources.

The latest Ministry created it is the transformation of the Special Secretariat for Aquaculture and Fisheries (SEAP) in the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture (MPA), the law 11.958/09 of 26 June 2009.
