In order to confirm the safety of foreign nationals, who may have fallen victim to the Tohoku Region Pacific Coast Earthquake, we will be responding to inquiries relating to confirmation of the fact of whether or not the foreign nationals have left Japan.

2. Opening times of the immigration offices
The opening times for the procedures of the immigration offices in areas under the jurisdiction of Sendai Regional Immigration Bureau (the prefectures of Aomori, Iwate, Miyagi, Akita, Yamagata and Fukushima) and areas within the jurisdiction of Tokyo Regional Immigration Bureau (the prefectures of Ibaraki, Tochigi, Gunma, Saitama, Chiba, Tokyo city and the prefectures of Kanagawa, Niigata, Yamanashi and Nagano) and the Higashi Nihon Immigration Center are as given in the annex.

All other regional immigration bureaus and offices (the regional immigration bureaus of Sapporo, Nagoya, Osaka, Hiroshima, Fukuoka (including branch offices), the district immigration offices of Chubu Airport , Kansai Airport, Kobe, Naha (including branch offices)), Nishi-Nihon Immigration Center and Omura Immigration Center are operating as normal.

The information telephone line of Sendai Regional Immigration Bureau (022-298-9014) is operating 24 hours a day until March 21 and will be implementing consultations relating to immigration and residence examinations in the Sendai Immigration Bureau (in Japanese, English and Chinese between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday, and in Japanese for all other hours)

4. Immigration control measures for extension of the period of stay and other related matters in accordance with the occurrence of the Tohoku-Region Pacific Coast Earthquake Disaster.
The expiration date of the period of stay shall be extended through a Ministry of Justice public notice (Ministry of Justice Public Notice No. 123 of March 16, 2011) pursuant to the provisions of Article 3, paragraph 2 of the Act on Special Measures for Preservation of Rights and Profits of the Victims of Specified Disasters (Act No. 85 of 1996; hereinafter referred to as “Special Measures Act”) in accordance with the 2011 Tohoku Region Pacific Coast Earthquake.
