Roadside bomb kills policeman, wounds 2 in W Afghanistan

HERAT, Afghanistan, May 27 (Xinhua) -- A roadside bomb organized by militants struck a police van in Farah province, in western Afghanistan, leaving one policeman dead and two others injured, police spokesman in the western region Abdul Rauf Ahmadi said Thursday.

"The gruesome incident occurred in Balablok district Wednesday, killing one policeman and injuring two others," Ahmadi told Xinhua.

He also added that another mine planted on a road in the same district was found Thursday morning and defused later.

Taliban militants who staged a violent comeback in 2006 have vowed to speed up their activities this year in Afghanistan.
