Married New York Rep. Christopher Lee has been caught hunting for extramarital affairs on Craigslist, according to a bombshell report published by Gawker.
The GOP congressman, who covers the 26th District in Western New York, sent a 34-year-old woman he met on the listings site a shirtless photo of himself, along with emails claiming he's "divorced," a "lobbyist" and a "fit fun classy guy."
Lee's office was not responding to the allegations. The two-term Congressman was "unavailable," as was his press secretary and anyone else in his office, according to the person who picked up the phone at his Longworth House Office Building suite. A spokesman told Gawker that Lee's email account was hacked into.
The woman, who was not identified by the website, placed an ad in the "Women for Men" section of the listings site on Jan. 14, asking someone to prove to her that not all congressional lobbyists "look like toads."
A man named Christopher Lee responded with a photo describing himself as 6 feet tall, 190 pounds, with blond hair and blue eyes. He also said he was 39 years old and promised "not to disappoint," according to the e-mails published by Gawker.
According to Gawker, the two began a correspondence, but the woman soon ended it after searching for Lee on the Web and realizing he had lied about his age and job.
Lee's office admitted that the Gmail account used did belong to the congressman, but did not explain how a hacker obtained a shirtless photo of Lee. In addition, according to the photo's metadata, it was taken in Washington, D.C., by a BlackBerry smartphone, the type of phone Lee uses.
Lee was elected on a no-nonsense, business-first campaign platform that projected him as candidate devoted to "holding Washington accountable for every dollar it spends."
His official bio claims that Lee picked up his "business expertise" as a general director of his family’s machine-tool firm, Enidine Inc.
Lee lives in the Buffalo suburb of Amherst with his wife, Michele, and young son.
"The congressman is happily married," Lee's spokesman insisted.
