Monday meeting on H1N1, now declared a national emergency

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama has declared the H1N1 flu outbreak a national emergency, giving his health chief the power to let hospitals move emergency rooms off-site to speed treatment and protect noninfected patients. The declaration, signed Friday night and announced today, comes as the disease has become more prevalent than ever in the country and production delays have undercut the government's initial, optimistic estimates that as many as 120 million doses of the vaccine could be available by mid-October. Locally, an informal meeting regarding the H1N1 virus and vaccine is set for 7 p.m. Monday at South Range High School auditorium in North Lima.

Representatives from the Mahoning County District Board of Health as well as Dr. Carrie Campanelli, pediatric physician and South Range district parent and resident, will have a presentation to help inform and educate those concerned with the virus.
