Doctor Charged With Sexual Assault Of Patients Dies

SUMNER COUNTY, Tenn. - A prominent Sumner County doctor charged with sexually assaulting female patients died just one day before he was slated to appear in court.

79-year-old Charles Cowden died Wednesday. Police arrested Cowden in 2009 on charges of rape by fraud, and sexual battery by fraud.

Investigators said Cowden undressed and groped four patients at the Urgent Care Medical and Diagnostic clinic on Hollow Pike then wrote them prescriptions for pain medication afterward.

An attorney for three of the victims said a civil case against Urgent Care will continue to move forward.
