US President Barack Obama
A senior Iranian lawmaker says despite the US stepping up its psychological warfare against the Islamic Republic ahead of Iran's parliamentary elections, these plots will backfire.

“Provoking [former Iraqi dictator] Saddam Hussein to attack Iran [in 1980], encouraging Persian Gulf littoral states to unite against Iran, encouraging terrorist groups [to act against Iran], trying to spy [on the country], and assassinating nuclear scientists, all show that Washington is trying to deliver physical and psychological blows to Iran,” lawmaker Mohammad Karamirad said on Friday.

Karamirad, who is also a member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of Majlis (parliament), added that such measures have always proven ineffective and the Islamic Republic has made great advancements in various fields such as nuclear science, nanotechnology, and aerospace.

On January 13, Iran announced that it had collected “credible evidence and reliable intelligence,” that the killing of its nuclear scientist Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan two days earlier had been carried out with the “guidance, support, and planning” of the US intelligence service CIA.

The assassination came just one month after Iran brought down a US spy drone that violated its airspace in the east of the country. On December 6, two US officials confirmed that the drone had indeed been part of a US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) reconnaissance mission.

Karimirad concluded by saying that US animosity towards is because its interests were lost in Iran after the 1979 Islamic Revolution in the country.
