TEHRAN, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- A senior Iranian military commander announced Sunday that the country will unveil a new generation of domestically developed long-range S-200 air defense missile system by next February, the local Fars news agency reported.
"We have made good progress in developing S-200 systems," Brigadier General Ahmad Miqani, Commander of Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base told a news conference.
The commander said that in the new generation of the S-200 system, the radar system is boosted and is made fully digital, Miqani was quoted as saying.
Reportedly, the S-200 system is a very long range, medium-to- high altitude surface-to-air missile system designed to defend large areas from bomber attack or other strategic aircraft.
On Wednesday, Iran said it would test-fire its domestically built S-300 missile system in near future in response to Russia's refusal to provide Tehran with the defense missile shield.
