  • 90'

Thanks for following today's thrashing on ESPN. Join us for Switzerland vs Chile in little over half an hour.

  • 90'

Comment from Jayaditya Gupta at Green Point stadium: Portugal moved up several gears in the second half and ended up toying with theoir opponents. Full value for their seven goals. But North Korea, though battered, should not be embarrassed - they were up against a good team at its best, and they never gave up the fight.

  • 90'

As for Portugal, they were ruthlessly efficient on the counter attack and destroyed North Korea with their pacey, accurate breaks. Coentrao deserves particular praise for his superb display from left back.

  • 90'

North Korea have been on the end of an absolute drubbing here. They don't deserve to have lost so emphatically but they have paid for losing the ball in attacking positions time and time again.

  • 90'

    Yes, SEVEN-nil.

  • 90'

    That's it.It finishes Portugal 7-0 North Korea

  • 90'

We are in stoppage time in Cape Town.

  • 90'

North Korea have been utterly routed in the second half.

  • 88'

GOAL! Do I have to tell you who have scored? Yes, it's Portugal. Yes, it's 7-0! It's Tiago from Coentrao's cross.

  • 87'

GOAL! Its 6 for Portugal! Finally Ronaldo ends his drought. Fortunate goal after the ball bounced up off the keeper and rolled off the top of his head, before the Real Madrid man tapped in.

  • 85'

I can do better than that: Over 25% of Portugal's World Cup goals (ever!) have been scored against North Korea.

  • 84'

ESPN Stats & Info: The only other time Portugal scored five goals in a World Cup Match was against North Korea in 1966.

  • 83'

I'm pretty sure that was Liedson's first touch.

  • 81'

GOAL! It's 5 for Portugal! Coentrao yet again is involved as his low cross fortuitously falls at the feet of the substitute Liedson, who swings his foot at the ball from close range and scores at the second time of asking.

  • 80'

Hong Yong-Jo, who deserves a goal, almost gets his moment but the ball just gets away from him in the penalty area and Eduardo gathers.

  • 79'

A flurry of substitutions have been made by both sides in the last few minutes. Not that it will make much difference to the outcome of this one...

  • 77'

    Liedson for Almeida

  • 75'

    Portugal celebrate going further ahead.

  • 74'

Nam Song-Chol for Cha Jong-Hyok (North Korea)

  • 73'

    Veloso for Meireles (Portugal)

  • 73'

    Duda for Simao (Portugal)

  • 72'

Jong Tae-Se, the North Korean Wayne Rooney, shoots from a tight angle but the ball only finds the side netting.

  • 70'

Ronaldo hits the bar! He just can't score for Portugal! He again finds himself with miles of grass in front of him and tries a shot from all of 25 yards. It's swerves and dips but just skims the top of the bar.

  • 69'

Hugo Almeida (Portugal) Almeida gets a yellow card more for what he said to the referee rather than his challenge on Ji Yun-Nam.

  • 67'

Fabio Coentrao again! This time he sprints down the left wing and exchanges passes with Ronaldo on the edge of the box. His clipped left footed shot just goes wide of the far post. Coentrao has been outstanding today.

  • 65'

Comment from Jayaditya Gupta at Green Point stadium: Oh dear, poor North Korea, but at least I'm seeing some goals now.

  • 64'

ESPN Stats & Info: That is the quickest three-goal span for Portugal in their World Cup history.

  • 63'

Fantastic cross by Ronaldo! That was the Ronaldo we know so well as he put in a wonderful cross deep from the right which Raul Meireles couldn't quite get to at the far post. Portugal were all over North Korea there.

  • 62'

They at least deserve a goal to show for their efforts. 4-0 flatters Portugal, despite being brilliant on the break.

  • 61'

North Korea have been obliterated in this second half. They've paid the price for trying to dominate possession and Portugal have got them on the break every time.

  • 60'

GOAL! It's 4-0 Beautiful, fluid football by Portugal. Ronaldo bursts into space on the left and waits for the run of Tiago, before setting him up to side foot home from the edge of the box.

  • 59'

Kim Yong-Jun for Mun In-Guk (North Korea)

  • 58'

K-I Kim for Pak Nam-Chol (North Korea)

  • 56'

ESPN Stats & Info: It is exactly four years since Portugal last scored twice in a World Cup finals game - June 21 2006.

  • 54'

GOAL! 3-0! Almeida makes it 2 in as many minutes with a close range header from Fabio Coentrao's perfect cross from the left. Game, pretty much, over.

  • 52'

GOAL! It's 2-0 Portugal Sexy football by Portugal, as Simao finishes a silky move. Raul Meireles put a lovely pass into the path of Simao, who calmly sidefooted it under the keeper. Lovely goal.

  • 52'

The same player Jong Tae-Se, gets personal with Miguel's studs. That looked like it hurt.

  • 51'

A neatly worked free-kick, right off the training ground, is eventually hit right footed by Jong Tae-Se - the crier - but his effort is saved by Eduardo.

  • 50'

NK win a free kick on the corner of the box. Chance here...

  • 49'

NK keeper, Myong-Guk Ri, almost has a Robert Green moment as the ball squirms out of his hands. Cha Jong-Hyok takes no chances and hoofs it away.

  • 48'

Ronaldo pounces upon some ponderous NK defending. Rather than clearing their lines, Ri Jun-Il passes it straight to Ronaldo, whose shot is saved.

  • 47'

The second half starts as the first ended. NK's danger man, Hong Yong-Jo, shoots from distance but his shot is somewhat tame.

  • 46'

Great early effort by Tiago! Shoots from 20 yards, right footed, tipped over the bar by Myong-Guk Ri.

  • 46'

    The second half is underway.

  • 45'

Comment from Jayaditya Gupta at Green Point stadium: Korea started the half far brighter but seemed to wilt as the game progressed, and were more tentative after Portugal's goal - they could have conceded a couple more. They should come back refreshed and with a bit more confidence can take the game to Portugal.

  • 45'

A lovely goal by Raul Meireles separates the sides, but there hasn't been too much between them. It's been a good first half and, if North Korea continue to be adventurous, it should be an entertaining second.

  • 45'

Indeed, there goes the half time whistle.

  • 45'

We are in the final moments of stoppage time...

  • 45'

Ronaldo gets into a good position on the left but his stepovers were not as deft and quick as we have come to expect and he loses the ball to Hong Yong-Jo. Infact, that was more like Emile Heskey against Algeria.

  • 44'

Fabio Coentrao gets yet another cross in from the left and this one flashes across the face of goal. Almeida tries to flick it goalbound but fails to make meaningful contact.

  • 43'

Ronaldo, who has been quiet, drags a left-footed shot wide of the far post after a strong run.

  • 42'

ESPN Stats & Info: With his goal in the 28th minute, Raul Meireles has scored four in his last seven matches for Portugal, which is the same number that Ronaldo has scored in his last 27 for Portugal.

  • 41'

North Korea are giving Portugal left-back Fabio Coentrao too much space on the left. He is allowed to gallop forward again, but this time his cross is blocked. NK need to pay attention to that.

  • 40'

Hong Yong-Jo fires the free kick straight into the wall.

  • 39'

Mendes (Portugal) Mendes decides to get in on the action and brings down Ahn Yong-Hak 25 yards from goal.

  • 38'

Inevitably the tackles are flying in on the greasy surface. Tiago and Cha Jong-Hyok exchange some big tackles.

  • 37'

But they make a bit of a mess of it and the ball is cleared.

  • 36'

Hong Yong-Jo forces a much needed corner for North Korea...

  • 34'

Casual defendending by Pak Chol-Jin, who passes it straight to Raul Meireles, but the goalscorer fires wide.

  • 33'

The vuvuzelas are 'pulsing' in the stadium right now. No less irritating.

  • 31'

Tiago should be applauded for that assist though. A pass like that, on a surface like this, is superb.

  • 30'

It can definitely be argued that that was against the run of play. Portugal have the wind in their sails now.

  • 28'

GOAL! 1-0 Portugal Harsh on North Korea, but it's a good strike by Raul Meireles. He receives a perfect throughball from Tiago into the right channel and finishes, first time, beyond the advancing Myong-Guk Ri.

  • 27'

Hong Yong-Jo is flagged offside despite being all of 2 yards ON side.

  • 25'

Fabio Coentrao had Cha Jong-Hyok beaten on the left but couldn't resist going back for seconds, and his cross wasn't good enough for the waiting Almeida.

  • 24'

ESPN Stats & Info: At the 22nd minute both teams have preferred to attack down the right flank. 40% of the time for North Korea and 43% of the time for Portugal.

  • 23'

Myong-Guk Ri flaps at Simao's corner.

  • 23'

Raul Meireles fires in a low effort from 20 yards which just goes wide.

  • 22'

Portugal turn on the pressure this time. Hugo Almeida shapes to bury a header from Simao's cross, but the ball is nicked away just in time.

  • 21'

Ahn Yong-Hak drills a low left-footed shot just past Eduardo's post. Shots like that could well fly in on this surface today.

  • 20'

The rain is no longer falling in Cape Town, rather lashing down. The conditions are almost treacherous.

  • 19'

North Korea are definitely the stronger side so far. They are nothing short of explosive on the break!

  • 18'

Another great effort for North Korea! Skipper Hong Yong-Jo surprises Eduardo with an early shot from the right side of the box and can only parry the shot. The rebound was headed just over.

  • 17'

ESPN Stats & Info: Portugal has already matched the two shots on goal they had in their first match against Ivory Coast.

  • 16'

North Korea have really come into this game in the last few minutes - in fact they are the better side.

  • 15'

Lovely play by North Korea, who are causing Portugal problems on the break. Jong Tae-Se receives a throughball but can't quite stop the Jabulani from skidding off the surface and getting away from him. If he could have controlled that Portugal would have been trouble.

  • 13'

ESPN Stats & Info: Portugal's effort is the 17th time the woodwork has been hit in this tournament.

  • 12'

Indeed, it's been a bright start.

  • 12'

Comment from Jayaditya Gupta at Green Point stadium: This is good stuff, both sides attacking and the intent is positive.

  • 11'

Great effort by North Korea! A loose ball falls to Cha Jong-Hyok, who smacks it on the run from 25 yards. The ball just swerves away from goal but that was more adventurous by the North Koreans. We didn't see that until the last minute against Brazil.

  • 10'

Otherwise, it could be a repeat of the 1966 scoreline...

  • 9'

North Korea are getting undone very easily indeed here. They need to shore up their defence if they are to stand a chance today.

  • 8'

Hugo Almeida gets behind the North Korea defence but is flagged offside.

  • 7'

Portugal hit the post! The goalkeeper has gone fishing at the corner. Simao's corner is headed goalbound by Carvalho but crashes back off the left post! Let off for North Korea.

  • 6'

Quick, sweeping move by Portugal on the counter attack again. Simao, on the right this time, wins a corner.

  • 5'

Decent move by Portugal on the counter attack. Ronaldo finds Simao on the left, whose cross skids through to Carvalho in an advanced position, but Carvalho's turn and shot is way off target.

  • 4'

The Jabulani and the poor conditions could make for some ugly moments in this game.

  • 3'

Ronaldo shows some early intent with a powerful run and shot from 20 yards. It deflected off Pak Chol-Jin, but was saved well by Myong-Guk Ri.

  • 2'

Portugal's Miguel, making his first appearance at this World Cup, slips with no one around him. The surface could prove critical today.

  • 1'

Portugal, shooting from right to left, are in their usual home kit, meaning North Korea play in their all white away kit.

  • 1'

The conditions in Cape Town are just awful. A dark blanket of cloud has brought heavy rain today.

  • 1'

We are underway at the Green Point stadium

  • The national anthems have been sung, without tears this time, and we are a couple of minutes from kick off.

  • Ronaldo is on a very long run without a goal for his country, failing to score in almost two years.

  • And Portugal are without a World Cup finals win in four.

  • North Korea have not won any of their last eight games, losing five of them.

  • These teams met in the 1966 World Cup quarter finals. Portugal won 5-3 despite going 3-0 down, with Eusebio scoring four goals in the process. One of the all time great World Cup games.

  • North Korea are unchanged from the team that gave the Brazilians a fright in their opener.

  • Portugal make four changes to the side that drew 0-0 with Ivory Coast. Tiago comes in for the injured Deco, while Danny, Liedson and Paulo Ferreira are dropped for Simao, Hugo Almeida and Miguel.

  • Portugal vs North Korea kicks off in 15 minutes.

  • Off we go again, another day of World Cup football starts here and now on ESPN.

  • Join us at 1130 GMT to see if North Korea can upset misfiring Portugal in Group G.
