Suspect in Kizlyar bombings detained in Russia's Dagestan

MOSCOW, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Police detained one of the suspects in suicide bombings in Russia's North Caucasus republic of Dagestan in last March, a local police spokesman said on Sunday.

On March 31, two explosions set by suicide bombers rocked the town of Kizlyar in Dagestan, claiming 12 lives.

Also on Sunday, two militants have been reportedly killed during an anti-terrorist operation in the neighboring republic of Chechnya.

Violence is rampant in Russia's North Caucasus republics, especially in Chechnya, Dagestan and Ingushetia, with militants frequently targeting police officers and government officials.

Moscow recently has adopted a series of measures to promote the economic development in the regions to prevent local people from joining the terrorists.

Kremlin pledged to tackle the problem of unemployment, clan rivalry and corruption, which are considered as the main reasons behind the violent activities in the regions
