* India's top sugar refiner Shree Renuka Sugars (SRES.BO: Quote, Profile, Research) has demanded a higher stake in Brazil's Equipav SA Acucar e Alcool due to a slump in the international market. In February, the Indian firm had said it would buy 51 percent of Equipav for $329 million.
* Tata Steel (TISC.BO: Quote, Profile, Research) is close to aborting its plan to sell the Teesside unit of Corus as high raw material prices of iron ore and coal have made the unit unattractive for prospective buyers, as per a person with direct knowledge of the development.
* Private equity firm TPG has picked up a minority stake in children's apparell and accessories retailer Lilliput Kidswear for 1.2 billion rupees a week after U.S. private equity firm Bain Capital bought a stake in the retailer.
* B.K. Birla group-controlled JayShree Tea & Industries (JYST.BO: Quote, Profile, Research) is close to acquiring tea estates in Uganda and Rwanda, which will lift production to nearly 29 million kilograms in 2010/11 from from 23.5 million.

* The world's largest steelmaker ArcelorMittal (ISPA.AS: Quote, Profile, Research) is in talks with Delhi-based Ferro Alloys Corp (FROA.BO: Quote, Profile, Research) for buying a stake in the latter.
* The Department of Telecommunications has proposed postponing the divestment of state-run telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd.
