RIO DE JANEIRO (Reuters) - A man broke into a school in western Rio de Janeiro on the morning of Thursday and shot with a firearm against students before committing suicide, leaving students injured, said the military police.

"A man entered the school with a farewell letter and killed himself. Some students were injured and taken to hospital, but the only confirmed dead is the shooter, " said a spokeswoman for the PM told Reuters by telephone.

Aerial imagery of the station live Globonews showed several people clustered at the school gate and the presence of at least one ambulance. Police also were seen inside and the gate.

According to the TV, the man who carried out the shootings in schools in the district Realengo be the father of a student. The station reported that at least 15 people were injured.
