At least 15 people were injured, according to Military Police
A man broke into a school hall in Realengo, west of Rio de Janeiro, and shot at students and staff on the morning of Thursday. At least 15 people were injured, according to the Military Police.
The injured were taken to the Hospital Albert Schweitzer - some people had to be rescued in private cars, as demand exceeded the number of ambulances sent to the site.
Television footage showed that there are several units of the Office of Mobile Emergency (SAMU) in the door of the municipal school Tasso da Silveira, indicating that there may be more people injured in the college.
The military police reports that the gunman's father is a college student, but do not know the motives that led him to open fire on students and school staff. The PM's public relations, Colonel Ibis Pinheiro said that the 1st team of policemen arrived at the scene exchanged fire with the attacker. People who are on the scene said the gunman was killed by police, but the PM does not confirm the information.
