SYDNEY, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- A plane carrying 32 people has crashed in
Papua New Guinea (PNG), killing some of those on board, the Australian
Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) reported on Thursday.
The PNG Airlines Dash 8 plane crashed around 5 p.m. local time on Thursday while flying from Lae to Madang, in the north of the country, the PNG Accident Investigation Commission said.
"There were reports of fire and there have been some fatalities, " the commission's spokesman, Sid O'Toole, told the ABC.
He said it wasn't clear why the plane crashed and how many survivors there were but that ambulances had reached the scene.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is seeking to confirm with PNG authorities whether any Australians are on board.
