Toyota to recall 270,000 Lexus cars for faulty engine

BEIJING, July 2 (Xinhuanet) -- Toyota Motor Corp announced Friday it will recall 270,000 vehicles worldwide to repair faulty engines, which may have defective valve components that can cause problems including stalling.

Of the 270,000 recalled cars, some 180,000 were sold overseas and the rest in Japan.

The recalled vehicles include seven Lexus models, as well as the popular Crown, Toyota spokesman Paul Nolasco said.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Lexus said about 137,000 of its vehicles in the United States might have V-6 or V-8 engines with faulty valve springs and, “in extremely rare instances, the engine may stop while the vehicle is in operation.”

The latest recall comes as the world’s largest automaker struggles to restore its reputation after recalls of about 8 million vehicles globally for defects linked to unintended acceleration
