Mexican police detain finance operator of drug-trafficking chief

MEXICO CITY, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- The Mexican federal police Friday captured Mauro Gonzalez, alias "El Coyote," the finance operator of drug lord Edgar Valdes, authorities said.

El Coyote was captured during an operation in the central Morelos state, said the Public Security Ministry in a statement.

El Coyote was in charge of paying informers, supplying drugs and controlling market supply in Morelos. Over the past months he had also been in charge of offering weapons to the La Barbie cartel and killing members of rival groups.

"Due to the capture of Valdes on Aug. 30, agents of the federal police were able to capture Gonzalez," the ministry said.

The ministry said the police also found two places where there were corpses, so the operation was continuing.
