HEAVY rain has forced the closure of roads in north-east Tasmania, with many parts of the state on flood alert.
The island state has been lashed with rain in the past 24 hours, with parts of the east coast receiving more than 150mm in that time.
Police closed roads in Bicheno, Fingal, Ford and Cranbrook this morning.
The Bureau of Meteorology said the South Esk River was already moderately flooded, and issued a warning for the entire South Esk and Macquarie basins.
They predicted "significant rain" for most of the state today, with falls of between 50 and 100mm on the east coast.
