TEHRAN, July 19 (Xinhua) -- Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi said Monday that the country plans to launch a hi-tech submarine equipped with advanced weapons in the near future, the semi-official Fars news agency reported. "The submarine enjoys advanced technology, high power of maneuvering and underwater operations and is equipped with hi-tech weapons," Vahidi was quoted as saying in the central city of Isfahan where he was attending a ceremony. On Sunday, Vahidi said that new submarines made by experts of Iran's defense industries would be delivered to the Navy on July 27, according to the official IRNA news agency. In June, Head of Iran's Army Research Center Mohammad Sadri announced that Iran is intending to build new radar-evading drones that can be operated by its submarines, the local satellite Press TV reported. "Due to their small sizes, these drones would be undetectable by radar systems," Sadri was quoted by the report as saying.
