Iran rejects U.S. senator's offer to visit Tehran: MP

TEHRAN, July 19 (Xinhua) -- Iran on Monday turned down a visit offer to Tehran made by U.S. Senator John Kerry, the official IRNA news agency reported.

Head of Iran's Majlis (Parliament) National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi said that Iran turned down a request made by U.S. Senator John Kerry to pay a visit to Tehran because the U.S. Democrats proved inconsistent in word and action.

He said that the request had been delivered to Tehran by the Swiss ambassador in Tehran.

According to Swiss ambassador to Iran, Kerry had voiced willingness to pay a visit to Iran and hold talks with the country 's officials, Boroujerdi was quoted as saying.

Since there is no change in the U.S. policy concerning the Islamic Republic, there will be no change in Iran's policy as well, said Boroujerdi.

Iranians have said there have been no meaningful changes in the U.S. policy toward Iran after President Barack Obama took office last year.

The meaningful changes mentioned by Iranians require U.S. to distance itself from Israel, lift the long-run sanctions on Iran, end its support to Iran's opposition groups, draw its troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan and stop pursuing Tehran's nuclear case which the country insists is aimed at peaceful ends.
