LOS ANGELES, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Law-enforcement officers seized 18.5 tons of illegal drugs in San Bernardino County near Los Angeles on Friday, authorities said. The seizure, considered one of the largest ever in the area, was made during a traffic stop, said San Bernardino County Sheriff Rod Hoops. The seizure was "one of the largest in the county," he added. Truck driver Fernando Luevano, 32, was stopped for a traffic violation. But in an ensuing search, 92 pallets containing thousands of heat-sealed packages of drugs were discovered, including 2,750 pounds of cocaine, 67 pounds of methamphetamine and 38,000 pounds of marijuana. The drugs have an estimated street value of 45 million U.S. dollars. The truck driver was detained and charged with transportation and sale of narcotics.
