But shares of a drugmaker owned by a new billionaire couple gains for the second day.

SHANGHAI -- China's main stock index slid to an eight-month low amid worries about financial tumult abroad and higher interest rates at home.
The Shanghai Comosite Index closed at an eight-month low of 2688.38, down 51.32 points, or 1.9%
Investors already nervous about government efforts to break the country's booming property market pushed prices lower again. The move comes amid declines in international shares yesterday and today on concerns that fallout from the Greek debt crisis will spread, dampening global growth. Fears of rising prices and interest rates in China also hurt demand for stocks today.
Big energy suppliers that might be hit by slower demand for their products if economic growth eases were among the biggest decliners. Shares in PetroChina ( PTR - news - people ) lost 2.4%, China Petroleum & Chemical ( SNP - news - people ) declined 3.4% and China Shenhua Energy fell 2.72%.
Two of four companies that rose on their trading debut yesterday fell. The Xiamen Academy of Building Research Group plunged 7.3% and Guangdong Advertising plunged 9.1%.
By contrast, shares in Chinese pharamceutical firm Shenzhen Hepalink rose for a second day, climbing 1.5% to 177.78 yuan. Hepalink is a supplier to Sanofi-Aventis ( SNY - news - people ). The 18% rise at the country's emerging markets board on its first day of trading yesterday valued the 72% stake of founders Li Li and Li Tan at $7.4 billion, lifting the married couple into the ranks of China's richest people. Zong Qinghou, the chairman of unlisted beverage giant Wahaha, was worth $7 billion. Zong ranked no. 1 from China on the billionaires list published by Forbes on March 10.(See a complete list of the world's billionaires.)
