Around forty citizens led by MPs Waleed Al-Tabtabaei, Mohammad Hayef and Mubarak Al-Wa'lan gathered outside Al-Ferdous police station where journalist Meshal Al-Nami and Kuwait TV reporter Menwer Al-Shemmary were detained.
The lawmakers demanded the release of the two journalists whom they described as 'prisoners of conscience', further calling for an end to "suppression of freedoms". "We are not against the law, but are against abuse and unequal implementation of the law", Hayef said.
Al-Tabtabaei argued that there are forty cases filed against Kuwaiti citizens for Twitter remarks, describing this as "an insult to democracy in Kuwait". - Agencies
