BEIJING, May 20 -- Actress and singer Vanessa Williams will star on the next season of the hit show "Desperate Housewives", according to the ABC network.
The show's creator, Marc Cherry, has said Williams will join the cast and play a "wicked new housewife" as the series enters its seventh season.
The 47-year-old former Miss America garnered favorable attention, beginning in 2006, for her portrayal of Wilhelmina Slater in the recently canceled ABC series "Ugly Betty".
Since its debut in 2004, "Desperate Housewives" has garnered multiple Emmy, Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild awards. Though a date has yet to be announced for the seventh season premiere, ABC announced the show will air Sunday at 9 p.m. this fall. Rumors have circulated it might be the final season.
