TEHRAN, June 28 (Xinhua) -- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Monday that the United States will have loss by adopting sanctions against Iran. Referring to the recent U.S. Congress sanctions bill against Iran, Ahmadinejad said that "By these sanction, they (the Americans) in fact sanction themselves." "The United States has no economic relations with Iran for 30 years," he said, adding that "So, who they want to sanction." "They are unhappy with Iran's boosting economic relations with others. (Therefore) by these (sanctions) they in fact sanction themselves," said Ahmadinejad in a press conference here on Monday. U.S. Congress on Thursday overwhelmingly passed the Iran sanctions bill, paving way for the Obama administration to take unilateral sanctions on Tehran over its controversial nuclear program. The United States, Israel and other Western countries worry that Tehran may obtain the uranium fuel needed for nuclear weapons by the same process to purify uranium. The Iranian government insists its nuclear program is for peaceful purpose.
