TRIPOLI, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- Loud explosions were heard in the
Libyan capital of Tripoli Saturday and heavy smoke was seen rising from
the blasts-hit area, engulfing a large part of the city.
"The sound of successive explosions is echoing over the city," said a Xinhua reporter who is rushing to the scene.
Roads leading to the blasts-hit area have been closed to the public, he said.
According to local residents, the explosions-stricken site may be an arms depot near a naval base. Their presumption has yet to be confirmed.
