The star will follow her former One Show co-presenter in leaving the BBC before the autumn.
Earlier, BBC bosses withdrew the offer of a new contract to Bleakley.
She said today: "I am looking forward to a brand new experience at ITV albeit with an old friend.
"I have been torn between working with Adrian Chiles and remaining at the BBC.
"I fully understand the BBC had to move more swiftly than I could, and as a result they've managed to help make my mind up for me."
A BBC spokesman said they had been in discussions with Bleakley since April when she said she wanted to continue at the helm of the prime time show, despite the loss of co-host Chiles.
He said: "With that in mind we made a full and final offer to her several weeks ago and made it clear we would not be entering into a bidding war with other channels.
"Christine is still unable to make a decision and therefore we have regretfully withdrawn our offer as we have to put the interests of The One Show audience first and the current uncertainty does not allow us to do that."
Chiles quit the show when it emerged Radio 2 breakfast show host Chris Evans was being brought in to present it on Friday evenings.
He has signed up as host of a soon-to-be-revamped GMTV, which has recently seen an exodus of presenters.
It is believed Bleakley's current contract with the BBC runs out in September.
Bleakley recently signed a new management deal which means she is now represented by the same company as Chiles.
