The Portuguese writer Jose Saramago has died aged 87 at his house in Lanzarote, Canary Islands, on Friday (18). The information was disclosed by the family of the writer of "Blindness" and confirmed on their official website.

"Today, Friday, June 18, Jose Saramago died at 12:30 hours [local time] in his home in Lanzarote, with 87 years of age, as a result of multiple organ failure after a long illness. The writer died while accompanied by his family, saying goodbye to a serene and peaceful manner, "said a note signed by Fundação José Saramago and published on the writer on the Internet.
