Two more Thai "red-shirts" leaders surrender

BANGKOK, May 24 (Xinhua) -- Two more leaders of "Red-Shirts" United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) turned themselves in to the police on Monday for being charged of bleaching the emergency decree.

The Red News' editor Somyos Prueksakasemsuk and a Chulalongkorn University's lecturer Dr. Suthachai Yimprasert, two anti- government "red-shirts" leaders, surrendered themselves early Monday at the Crime Suppression Division (CDS) to face charge of violating the emergency decree. The two leaders, as allegedly suspected terrorists, had been investigated by the police for roughly one hour before being brought to detention at Adisorn Military Camp in Saburi.

Pol Lt-General Thangai Prasjaksattru, commissioner of the Central Investigation Bureau, also unveiled that there are three more UDD leaders to surrender. Regarding red-shirt hardcore leader Arismon Pongruangrong, who fled from the protest site on May 19 during the military's dispersion, is believed to still be in Thailand amidst the rumours that he was seen in some provinces but the police are still in the quest for him, Thangai said.

Some core leaders of the anti-government group, which occupied the downtown Ratchaprasong area in Bangkok for more than one month in an effort to pressure the government to dissolve the House and to hold a snap election, had turned themselves in last Wednesday, after they announced an end of the red-shirts rally.

Altogether 54 people died since May 14 in the confrontation and clashes between the protestors and troops who tried to seal Ratchaprasong area off and to disperse the red-shirts.
