BUJUMBURA, June 22 (Xinhua) -- One person was killed and five others seriously injured in a grenade blast that occurred Monday night in a bar in Bwiza, a suburb of Burundi's capital Bujumbura. The head of Bwiza urban commune Sadick Ciza told Xinhua on Tuesday that the blast was carried out by a person who was aboard a motorcycle. He left the bomb some 20 meters away from the bar with the motorcycle rider. "The criminal arrived by 10:00 p.m. local time at the bar and fired the grenade in the middle of the people who were taking drinks in the bar," Ciza told Xinhua. "It's a terrorism act because the bar is frequented by all people no matter which political parties they belong to," he said. After firing the grenade, the suspect joined the motorcycle and fled, Ciza said, adding that he is yet to be arrested. The bar attendant was killed, he said. "Security measures had been taken and explained to owners of bars, restaurants and theatres were many people meet, but the owner of the bar attacked on Monday night did not follow the instructions," Ciza said.

Grenade blast kills 1, injures 5 in Burundi
94 Cambodian deminers, military police return home from Africa
PHNOM PENH, June 22 (Xinhua) -- After spending for a year in mission abroad, 94 Cambodian deminers and military police returned home on Tuesday.
Tea Banh, deputy prime minister and minister of national defense, welcomed the 94 returnees at Phnom Penh Military Airport.
He said 52 deminers had spent more than one year in Sudan, while another 42 security officers for social order spent almost eight months for their missions in Chad and Central African Republic.
"We are gathering together today for proudly congratulating for the safe home-coming of the 405-1 Royal Cambodian Armed Forces' Demining Company and it is the fourth time that our sacred forces has brought home dignity and success from the U.N mission in Sudan and also the great success of the movement control unit 306 returning before the schedule from Chad and Central African Republic," Tea Banh said.
He further said that "our mission is to fulfill our job with gratitude and international ethics for all mankind and peace."
Prak Sokhon, advisor to Cambodia's Prime Minister Hun Sen, and chairman of National Coordination Committee of U.N. Peacekeeping Operation, said Tuesday that, since 2005, 568 Cambodians have been sent to Sudan, Chad, and Central African Republic in the form of the U.N. peace keeping operation.
Over the past four years, Prak Sokhon said, Cambodian peace keeping operators have cleared land covered by landmines and unexploded ordinance for about 77 million square meters, 2,546 land mines, 220 anti-tank mines, 59,108 pieces of unexploded ordnance, and 118,913 pieces of shrapnel.
On Sunday, Cambodia dispatched 52 deminers, replacing the 52 returnees in a way to continue international cooperation and obligation as a state member of the United Nations.
As of now, none of Cambodian deminers ever met incident in their mission abroad, said Prak Sokhonhe, adding that they were qualified and skillful with their demining techniques.
Cambodia is also working with the United Nations in a plan to dispatch some 200 Cambodian troops as peacekeepers to Lebanon.

New York's Times Square bomb suspect pleads guilty
NEW YORK, June 21 (Xinhua) -- New York's Times Square bomb suspect Faisal Shahzad pled guilty to failed use of a weapon of mass destruction Monday afternoon.
Shahzad's noon arraignment was postponed until 4:30 p.m. No reason was given.
Last week Shahzad was indicted on 10 courts including attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction.
Shahzad entered the plea to the first of 10 charges in the indictment, but said he planned to plead guilty to all of them. He reportedly told the judge he wanted to "plead guilty and 100 times more."
He also warned that unless the U.S. leaves Muslim lands, "We will be attacking U.S."
The botched plot involved a gasoline-and-propane bomb that failed to ignite in an SUV parked in the center of Times Square on May 1.
Soon after his arrest on May 3, he reportedly cooperated with investigators.
The 30-year-old Pakistani-born Shahzad, who became a U.S. citizen last year, was arrested aboard a Dubai-bound jetliner two days later that was minutes from leaving New York's JFK International Airport.

Orlando Bloom, Miranda Kerr engaged

BEIJING, June 22 (Xinhuanet) -- Orlando Bloom’s rep confirmed to Entertainment Tonight that the actor has been engaged to his model girlfriend Miranda Kerr, foreign media reported Monday.
Kerr’s rep told People magzine "The entire Kerr family is thrilled with the news."
Bloom, 33, and Kerr, 27, have been dating since 2007.
Orlando told US Weekly last year that “Miranda and I spend so much time apart; she’s working hard, I’m working hard, so we have to grab time together whenever we can. A weekend here, a weekend there… we are just enjoying our time together now.”
The Victoria’s Secret model also revealed that she planned to have kids.
“I’ve always wanted kids, so… someday… eventually, yes, it will happen,” Kerr confessed. “My ideal situation would be to live on a farm in a solar-powered house with a hammock and vegetable patch. When this is all over, that’s where I’ll be.”
Orlando Bloom is widely known for his character in the trilogy of the “Lord of the Rings” and Pirates of Caribbeans.

RIO DE JANEIRO, June 21 (Xinhua) -- Over 1,000 people are unaccounted for in the aftermath of the floods that hit Brazil's northeastern region during the past few days, officials said on Monday.
The disaster has already claimed at least 32 lives in the states of Pernambuco and Alagoas, and that number will continue to rise based on the number of the missing persons, according to local Civil Defense services.
The situation took a turn for the worse after a dam in the Pernambuco state broke down, causing the Mumbau River to overflow and flood several towns.

RIO DE JANEIRO, June 21 (Xinhua) -- The storms which have been hitting Brazil's northeastern region in the past few days have already caused 31 deaths in the states of Pernambuco and Alagoas, local Civil Defense services said on Monday.
The situation took a turn for the worse after the Bom Conselho Dam, in the state of Pernambuco, broke down, causing the Mumbau River to overflow and flood several towns.
In Alagoas state, 19 people died and over 600 were injured. According to the local authorities, over 1,000 people are missing, but as several locations are isolated, it is impossible to know the real number of casualties.
Some 80,000 people were affected by the storms in the state, and 57,000 had to leave their homes. Twenty-one municipalities reported damages and 15 declared state of emergency.
In Pernambuco state, where the number of casualties reaches 12, the rain damaged 49 municipalities, 13 of which are in state of emergency. A total of 40,000 people had to leave their homes due to the storms.
The Brazilian government announced that it will provide financial aid to the two states. In his weekly radio show, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said that he will meet with the states' governor to discuss the amount of the aid.
Two field hospitals will be set up in the towns of Jacuipe and Santana do Mundau, in Alagoas state. Additionally, an Air Force plane full of supplies will be sent to the region.
Bomb blast kills 4, wounds 12 in Istanbul

ISTANBUL, June 22 (Xinhua) -- Four people were killed and 12 wounded after a roadside bomb struck a shuttle bus carrying military personnel in Istanbul on Tuesday.
Istanbul Governor Huseyin Avni Mutlu said that three of those killed were specialized sergeants and the fourth victim was the 17- year-old daughter of an officer.
The governor said two of the twelve wounded people were in critical condition while the rest of the wounded sustained no serious injuries.
The remote-control fragment bomb was detonated near a military lodging complex in the district of Halkali in Istanbul's European side at about 7:30 am, he added.
According to the semi-official Anatolia news agency, the blast took place in the Halkali district in the European side of the city as the bus carrying military personnel from the military lodgings was passing by a cemetery.
Up to now, there was no immediate claim of responsibility and it was not clear how many passengers were on the bus or how many of them were military personnel.
The blast came a day after Turkish military forces began a major deployment of troops and elite forces along the border with Iraq, as fighting intensified between Turkish armed forces and militants of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).
