WASHINGTON, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) announced Friday morning the fifth delay to the launch of space shuttle Discovery, citing a hydrogen leak.

According to NASA, the leak was detected in the ground umbilical carrier plate, or GUCP, an attachment point between the external tank and a 17-inch pipe that carries gaseous hydrogen safely away from Discovery to a flare stack, where it is burned off.

Shuttle launch director Mike Leinbach characterized the leak as "significant," similar to what was seen on last year's two shuttle missions.

The external tank is being drained and will be inerted for about 20 hours before it is safe for technicians to look at the GUCP on Saturday.

The Space Shuttle Program Mission Management Team will meet Saturday after technicians have had the opportunity to troubleshoot the hardware, then determine if it is possible to achieve a launch attempt Monday.

According to NASA, the earliest launch opportunity for Discovery is Nov. 8, at 12:53 p.m. EST (1553 GMT), which is also the last date Discovery can launch in this window. The next launch window for Discovery is Tuesday, Nov. 30 through Saturday, Dec. 5.

Discovery was supposed to lift off Monday, but gas leaks, an electrical problem with a backup controller and bad weather has forced four delays.

Discovery's 11-day mission is its final scheduled flight, and the fourth and final shuttle mission planned for 2010.

The six astronauts for the mission will deliver a Permanent Multipurpose Module (PMM) to the International Space Station. Two space walks, for maintenance work and component installation, are also scheduled.

The PMM was converted from the multipurpose logistics module Leonardo and will provide additional storage for the station crew. Experiments in such fields as fluid physics, materials science, biology and biotechnology can be conducted inside the module.

The PMM also carries Robonaut 2, the first human-like robot in space, which will become a permanent resident of the station. In addition, the flight will deliver critical spare parts and an external platform that holds large equipment.

World expositions to encourage development, CEO of Milan Expo says

Just come back from Shanghai, where he participated in the Expo closing and handover celebrations, Sala congratulated Chinese colleagues for their outstanding achievements. "Our Expo will follow an edition of great success as the one that just closed in Shanghai," he said, adding that the most precious truth he brought back from Shanghai is the growth opportunity that an "extremely modern event" as the universal Expo represents to the world. "Talking with directors of various pavilions in the past days, I realized how much important is a well-organized and good- themed Expo," Sala pointed out adding that many cities have already submitted their nominations to host the Expo 2020. The CEO recalled that Italy's last Expo, which was held in Milan once again, dates back to 1906. "Today many citizens do not even remember what a world exposition is like, therefore it is our task to make all Italians realize how valuable this event is," he added. "Of course, we should and could not attempt to follow Shanghai Expo's model in terms of dimension and numbers. Our challenge, instead, is to conceive a different Expo, strongly based on innovative content," Sala said.

He strongly wished that, thanks to the good relations established with Shanghai colleagues, Milan Expo's organizers will learn from the Chinese experience.

"I have been to China many times in my life, and I have been cultivating in these years a little knowledge of this immense country and its extremely kind people," Sala said.

"Italians are very friendly as well, and more and more curious about China. I can easily predict that, in the coming years, Beijing and Shanghai will attract more and more tourists from Italy, being the symbol of China's extraordinary run to the future," he noted.

He went on to say that Milan will also open wide its doors to Chinese friends, showcasing its little-known yet nevertheless important scientific and technological faces.

He recalled that, often only known as the heart of fashion, Milan is the Italian industrial, agricultural and financial capital, and one of the four driving economies of Europe.

The northern city hosts half of all foreign companies present in Italy, with a turnover of tens of millions of dollars, and has each year the same number of registered innovation patents as Boston.

"Milan's capacity to combine science and art makes its international drive. Therefore, what is most dear to my heart is building an innovative Expo which reflects the city's nature," Sala stressed.

In these days a special "Milan Brand" was launched, featuring the city's castle logo, which will be placed on characteristic goods sold in the boutiques, as a symbol of Milan' s creativity and innovation.

Sala highlighted that the theme of Milan Expo, "Feeding the Planet. Energy for Life", will be put at the center, bound to the rich tradition of Italian lifestyle in terms of food and wellness that encourages development.

"Our Expo has been designed not only as a six-month event, but as a journey on a theme of universal interest aimed at implementing innovative and sustainable technological solutions for the sake of mankind," he said.

#news Israeli warplanes strike southern Gaza, no injuries

GAZA, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- Israeli F16 warplanes carried out on Saturday night two successive airstrikes on southern Gaza Strip, with no injuries reported, witnesses, medical and security sources said.

The witnesses said the first airstrike was on the village of Abassan east of the southern Gaza Strip town of Khan Younis, while no injuries were reported. The F16 warplanes hovered over the southern area of the Gaza Strip and fired at least one rocket at a farm cultivated with olives in the village. The rocket caused damages to the trees, while no injuries were reported.

The warplanes struck again an underground smuggling tunnel under the borders between southern Gaza Strip and Egypt, said Palestinian security sources, adding that the tunnel collapsed, but no injuries were reported.

Medical sources at southern Gaza Strip hospitals said that ambulances rushed to the two areas, but no injuries were reported.

The Israeli airstrike on the village of Abassan and on the tunnel area came hours after unknown militants fired earlier on Saturday a homemade rocket from Gaza at southern Israel. No one has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.

Israeli Radio quoted Israeli army sources as saying that the rocket landed on an empty area in southern Israel causing no damages or injuries.

Uma canalhice está em curso: associar afirmações infelizes, estúpidas, de uma moça no Twitter ao fato de ela ser paulista e ter declarado voto na oposição. A rede suja na Internet faz a festa. Como se pode notar, os carniceiros não se contentam com a vitória. É preciso depois fazer uma variante da limpeza étnica. Entre no Google, leitor, para ver quantas são as ofensas aos paulistas — não caracterizariam, também elas, uma variante de “racismo”, a exemplo, então, do ataque ao Nordeste?

Num desses blogs asquerosos, que apareceram na procura, o rapaz se mostra muito indignado com as declarações da tal moça e as associa, o que é criminoso, ao candidato da oposição. Um de seus comentadores não tem dúvida: “paulistas são idiotas”; para outro, “morrem todos de câncer” por causa de seus maus costumes… Evidentemente, isso não ganhará notoriedade por dois motivos: a) porque não existe, na chamada “oposição” ,uma máquina de propaganda destinada a transformar o “vitimismo” em categoria política; b) porque não ocorrerá ao presidente da OAB local propor uma ação para combater o “racismo” contra os paulistas.

Será o regionalismo cretino, com pretensões políticas, característica de um dos lados? E o que dizer desta página? Ela deixa alguém orgulhoso?

Esse blog nunca foi admitido como parte da rede oficial pró-Dilma, mas existe desde quye Lula deixou claro que ela seria a candidata. Tinha até uma janela destinada à arrecadação de recursos. Não contasse, no mínimo, com o assentimento da campanha, teria saído do ar.

O preconceito regional foi, sim, objeto de manipulação política na campanha eleitoral, mas a oposição não teve nada com isso. Facções do governismo, especialmente os blogueiros a soldo, é que tentaram associar a campanha da oposição a propostas que prejudicariam o Nordeste. Na fase da disputa interna entre José Serra e Aécio Neves, paulistas foram tratados como inimigos dos mineiros.

Não há nada mais atrasado, estúpido, ridículo mesmo, do que esse confronto entre regiões ou estados. São detestáveis os que secretam generalizações e preconceitos. E não menos detestáveis são os gigolôs que se oferecem, na Internet, para “proteger os ofendidos”, transformando uma manifestação individual, irresponsável, num grave delito coletivo ou partidário para que possam, então, se oferecer como salvadores de uma coletividade.

Curiosamente, os que reagem, em “nome dos nordestinos” às declarações idiotas feitas por um indivíduo acreditam, no fundo, que se trata de um “preconceito dos paulistas”. Seria o caso de perguntar: “Onde estão mesmo os preconceituosos”? Ainda volto ao tema.

Resposta de um blogueiro nordestino a meia dúzia de idiotas que acham que são brasileiros

Hoje (03/11), infelizmente, fiquei sabendo via o blog Dois Em Cena, que admiro muito, que no último domingo, após a divulgação do resultado das eleições presidenciais alguns twitteiros, covardemente, através de mensagens preconceituosas e fascistas, culpavam o eleitor nordestino pela derrota do Serra. Apesar de ter cerca de seis mil seguidores no Twitter quase passo batido se não fora o blog da minha amiga. É que nenhum dos agressores faz parte dos meus Following/Followers. Ainda bem. Sinal de que estou seguindo e sendo seguido por gente do bem.
Como nordestino que viveu a maior parte da sua vida entre o Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo e Brasília e ainda com bom relacionamento com mineiros, gaúchos, catarinenses, etc., e também por entender que dei uma significativa contribuição à campanha do Serra, sinto-me à vontade para defender a minha gente desses ataques covardes que não representam, com certeza, o sentimento dos brasileiros em geral e em particular dos Estados citados.
Vou provar aqui, com fatos, como sempre faço que o Serra não foi derrotado pelo Nordeste e ao longo dessa minha exposição vou mostrar boa parte dos tweets que pude identificar, pois alguns já substituíram os seus perfis ou por reconhecerem que erraram ou até por serem covardes mesmo.

O musical Hair estreia hoje com cantora do Rouge no elenco

“Quando a Lua estiver na sétima casa e Júpiter alinhado com Marte, a paz vai guiar os planetas. E o amor irá além das estrelas. Esse é o começo da era de Aquários”. Este é o primeiro verso, traduzido, claro, da canção “Aquarius”, que embalou gerações desde que foi imortalizada no musical “Hair”, ícone do movimento hippie, no fim dos anos 70. Foi sob o lema “paz e amor” que o espetáculo rodou o mundo e volta a ser encenado no Brasil (a primeira versão foi em 1968), a partir de hoje, pelas mãos de Charles Möeller e Claudio Botelho.
Nos bastidores da produção, o clima é totalmente “faça amor, não faça guerra”. Em cada canto, além da correria e gente fazendo barulho de “rroooonnns” e “grrrsssss” para aquecer as cordas vocais, há almofadas, estátuas da deusa Shiva, incensos, flores, e muitos abraços e carinho. Se a tal Era de Aquarius chegou ou não, uma coisa é certa: dentro do Teatro Oi Casagrande está tudo alinhadinho.
— Estamos vivendo esse momento de paz interior. É um estado de plenitude — conta Karin Hills, que quando criança assistiu à versão para o cinema escondida da mãe: — Colei uma foto da personagem na parede e disse que um dia seria aquela negona!
Veterana da cantoria
Karin integrou o Rouge, grupo de meninas que fez sucesso no início dos anos 2000.
— As pessoas não lembram assim de cara quando me veem no palco. Foi muito intensa a época do grupo. Depois, a mú$quis um tempo de mim (risos). Fiz testes para musicais e deu certo. Estava em outro musical quando fui aprovada. Minha vida sempre foi de testes.
Que o diga Charles Möeller, que sofreu durante as audições. Afinal, foram 5 mil inscritos e 700 fizeram os testes.
— Poderia ter três elencos completos e ainda deixaria gente boa de fora. Isso é muito difícil — lamenta.

Sorte de quem ficou, como os paranaenses Hugo Bonemer e Igor Rickli. Ambos protagonizam o espetáculo na pele de Claude e Berger, respectivamente os líderes da tribo de hippies que invade Nova York para pedir o fim da Guerra do Vietnã. Em sua batalha pessoal, Igor venceu o próprio preconceito.
— Era o maior mauriçola. Achava que esse povo hippie não passava de um bando de lunáticos — conta ele, que hoje já ostenta um visual completamente riponga.
Hugo, que como Claude passa por diversas transformações, sentiu na pele todas elas. Inclusive ostentando um abdôme tanquinho:
— Emagreci nos ensaios. Minha mãe até me mandou uma caixa de paçoca porque acha que estou desnutrido.

Na pele da ruiva livre, leve e solta

Letícia Collin já é uma veterana nos musicais da dupla Charles Möeller e Claudio Botelho. Fez com eles “O despertar da primavera”, e logo depois emendou nas audições de “Hair”.
— Fiquei sabendo do teste e decidi arriscar. Mas queria fazer a Jeanie. Se não fosse ela, não me interessaria — conta a atriz, que chegou a assistir à versão inglesa em Londres, onde esteve nas últimas férias.
A Jeanie em questão é uma ruiva livre, leve e solta, e na maioria das vezes chapada.
— Mais do que mostrar alguém que usa drogas deliberadamente, existe o contexto em que ela vivia numa fase de investigação e descobrimento da sexualidade também — defende Letícia, que em cena aparece grávida: — Acho ela admirável pois, apesar de toda a loucura, decide arcar com suas responsabilidades.
Além da barriga falsa, assim como o restante do elenco, Letícia fica nua no palco:
— Mais difícil é se movimentar com barriga postiça e vestidão.
