Funcionários faziam obras não autorizadas na BR-116

Um boletim de ocorrência, registrado por um engenheiro coordenador de tráfego da Autopista na delegacia de Polícia Civil de Embu (SP), região onde aconteceu o acidente no trecho Sul do Rodoanel da Régis Bittencourt, dá indícios do que pode ter sido a causa. Segundo ele, os funcionários das empreiteiras que constroem o trecho faziam obras na rodovia sem autorização da Autopista — concessionária que administra a rodovia — na última quinta-feira (12).

A obra estaria sendo feita no mesmo ponto onde as três pilastras de concreto desabaram, obstruíndo o trânsido sentido Curitiba São Paulo. O boletim foi lavrado para preservação de direito contra o consórcio, segundo as informações da delegacia. A empresa deveria ter sido avisada para que comunicar os motoristas que passavam no local.

A interdição da pista que foi feita por funcionários do consórcio com o auxílio da Polícia Rodoviária Federal (PRF). Ainda segundo o boletim, os guindastes seriam instalados na pista da rodovia para que pudessem içar as vigas.

Segundo a assessoria da Autopista, o boletim não é criminal, mas garante a isenção de responsabilidade da empresa caso algum acidente fosse provocado.

A Autopista disse ainda que o consórcio tinha autorização para colocação de dez vigas entre os dias 7 a 10 de novembro. No entanto, nos dias 7 e 8 a chuva impossibilitou que os trabalhos fossem feitos. No dia 9, um uma das máquinas apresentou um problema e no dia 10 foram colocadas as quatro vigas (três caíram no dia seguinte).

Acidente — As vigas, com 85 toneladas e 40 metros de comprimento cada uma, foram instaladas na rodovia no começo da semana. Na sexta-feira (13), elas despencaram de uma altura aproximada de 20 metros e atingiram um caminhão e dois carros. Três pessoas ficaram feridas.

As causas do acidente estão sendo investigadas tanto pelo Instituto de Pesquisas Tecnológicas quanto pelo Instituto de Criminalística de São Paulo, segundo as informações da Bandnews de São Paulo.O laudo da perícia do Instituto de Criminalística deverá ficar pronto em 30 dias.

Dersa — Segundo entrevista concedida neste sábado (14), as obras na região onde houve a queda das pilastras é de responsabilidade das empresas OAS, Mendes Júnior e Carioca. A Carioca é a mesma empresa responsável pela obra do viaduto do Fura-Fila que caiu na Vila Prudente, em abril de 2008. O lote cinco do Rodoanel, com 35 pontes e viadutos, tem mais de 18 quilômetros de extensão e representa 19,7% da obra.

Oito pessoas ficam feridas e uma morre em obra de rodovia em Maringá

Acidente aconteceu de madrugada em um buraco aberto no Contorno Norte

Uma pessoa morreu e outras oito ficaram feridas na madrugada deste domingo (15) em Maringá (428 km de Curitiba) após uma motocicleta e um veículo caírem dentro de um buraco na avenida Morangueira, escavado para as obras do Contorno Norte — uma via com cerca de 17 km que fará a ligação do trevo na divisa entre Maringá e a cidade de Sarandi, ambas no Paraná.

De acordo com a Polícia Militar, por volta de 4h30, uma motocicleta com dois ocupantes caiu dentro da escavação. A pessoa que estava na garupa da moto ficou ferida.

Logo depois do acidente com a motocicleta, um veículo modelo Chevrolet Ômega, com o motorista e sete passageiros também caiu no buraco. Um dos ocupantes não resistiu aos ferimentos e morreu. As outras sete pessoas ficaram feridas e foram levadas para os hospitais da região.

China Investigates Deaths After Swine Flu Shot

Chinese health officials reported on Friday the first deaths in people who received the H1N1 vaccine. The Ministry of Health announced that the two people, including one teacher from Hunan province, died hours after receiving their inoculations. Since September, when the Ministry began its H1N1 immunization program, 12 million Chinese have received the pandemic flu shot.

A preliminary autopsy revealed that the teacher died of an apparent heart attack while playing basketball, and a Ministry spokesperson told the China Daily newspaper that the death was "a coincidental medical incident" and not related to the vaccine. No details on the second victim have been released so far. (See pictures :"Soccer in the Time of Swine Flu")

As they conduct an autopsy investigation into the second death, Chinese health officials have pulled all vaccines manufactured in the same batch used to inoculate the teacher. Although the H1N1 vaccine has been rigorously tested and vetted for safety, no inoculation can be considered 100% safe and may cause adverse events, including death, in some people.

Taking an aggressive approach to the pandemic flu, back in June the Chinese government asked 11 biotech companies to develop a pandemic H1N1 vaccine. Beijing-based Sinovac succeeded in developing the world's first approved swine flu shot. The company raced to conduct clinical trials, and was the first to report that a single dose of vaccine, instead of the two doses that most flu experts had believed would be necessary, was sufficient to protect against 2009 H1N1. In early September, China became the first country to begin swine flu inoculations.

But by the end of October, 54% of Chinese residents reported in a China Daily survey that they would not get the H1N1 vaccine because of concerns about the shot's safety. That prompted the director of the World Health Organization's Beijing office, Dr. Michael O'Leary, to tell the newspaper, "The H1N1 vaccine is one of the safest vaccines being used. When it's available to me, I would not hesitate to get the vaccine developed and produced by China." (Read "H1N1: Hitting the Young, Riskier for the Old")

Three vaccine manufacturers in China, including Sinovac, have received orders from the government for more than 34 million doses. Among the 12 million inoculated so far, 1,235 have complained of side effects, ranging from sore arms, rashes, and headaches, to anaphylactic shock and sudden drops in blood pressure.

While the Chinese government has been criticized for its draconian public health response to swine flu — using quarantines, canceling school and detaining entire planeloads of people when a single passenger appears to have flulike symptoms — the country's officials say the strict measures helped stem the spread of flu. So far, China reports about 36 deaths and 62,800 H1N1 cases — compared with U.S. government estimates of 4,000 American deaths and 22 million infections. China plans to immunize 65 million citizens, or 5% of the country's population, by the end of the year. As in the U.S., health officials are targeting high priority groups first, including the military, police, health-care workers, teachers, students and those with chronic diseases.

'Flashforward': the Next 'Lost' or the Next 'Heroes'?

Now that ABC’s new sci-fi drama FlashForward has been given a full-season pickup (a plump 25-episode order rather than the standard 22), it’s time to decide whether I plan to be around for the entire season. The premise definitely whetted my appetite: everyone on Earth blacks out for 2 minutes and 17 seconds, during which they get a preview of what’s to come for them six months in the future. Will knowing what happens in the future give them a shot at changing it? What if they don’t want it changed? There’s a lot to plumb, questions about fate and choice that would seem to lend themselves well to a series. But so far, I’m not sure FlashForward is making good on its promise.

From the beginning, the show’s producers have been vocal about avoiding comparisons between their show and Lost, and who can blame them? Lost is a cultural phenomenon—why set yourself up to lose the expectations game? But ABC has been promoting FlashForward as a worthy successor to Lost, and just in time as the tropical mind-bender prepares for its final season next year. And if the goal was to tamp down Lost comparisons, maybe it wasn’t such a good idea to cast not one, but two cast members of that show (Sonya Walger and Dominic Monaghan).

But so far, Lost it ain’t. The pilot wasn’t bad, but it also wasn’t great—certainly not of the quality of Lost, which remains one of the best pilots in television history. The premise is the star of the FlashForward more so than anyone in the ensemble, and three episodes in I haven’t become attached to any of the characters yet. I’m mildly interested in Demetri Noh (John Cho) who doesn’t have a vision during his blackout, and fears that he is destined to die before then. Aside from him, I don’t care enough about any of these people to be emotionally invested in what happens to them six months hence. And so far, all the show’s questions of fate and choice have felt more like watching an undergraduate philosophy-class discussion than a compelling genre show.

Unless it shapes up over the course of its run (as shows often do as they find their footing), FlashForward will not be remember as the successor to Lost, but rather as the successor to Heroes, a show that has made a fine art of audience attrition. It seems like a lifetime, but it was only three years ago when Heroes was the hot science-fiction thriller du jour. It even managed to garner nods for best drama series at the Emmys and the Golden Globes. Flash-forward to the present, where its ratings are continuing to free-fall in its fourth (and quite possibly final) season, and the people still watching seem to be doing so more out of defiance than anything else. It’s this fall from grace that the producers of FlashForward need to be paying attention to. As Lost and Heroes demonstrate, the setup is easy. It’s the execution that trips you up.

Giuliani Calls 9/11 Trials Too Risky

WASHINGTON (Nov. 15) -- Putting suspected Sept. 11 terrorists on trial in New York City places residents there at unnecessary risk, former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani said Sunday.

Holding the trials in New York will cost "millions and millions and millions of dollars, all of which would be worth it if there was no other choice. There is another choice ... military tribunals," he said.

Last week, Attorney General Eric Holder announced that self-proclaimed Sept. 11 mastermind Khalid Sheik Mohammed and four other suspects in the attacks would be moved from the U.S. prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to stand trial in New York. Five other suspected terrorists would be brought to the United States to face military tribunals, he said.

Reactions from the families of Sept. 11 victims have been mixed.

Critics have said the suspects should not be tried in the traditional just system or be brought to U.S. soil. Giuliani echoed those sentiments Sunday.

On "Fox News Sunday," Giuliani said the president is only granting Mohammad's "wish" and questioned why the Sept. 11 suspects wouldn't face military tribunals.

"What the Obama administration is telling us loud and clear is that both in substance and reality, the war on terror from their point of view is over," Giuliani said. Mohammad "should be tried in a military tribunal. He is a war criminal. This is an act of war."

The ex-mayor said that bringing Mohammed to New York would be "repeating the mistake of history." And he accused the Obama administration of adopting a "pre-9/11 approach" to fighting terrorists.

"There seems to be an over-concern with the rights of terrorists and a lack of concern with the rights of the public," Giuliani told Fox.

But David Axelrod, a senior adviser to President Barack Obama, said on CNN on Sunday that Mohammed and the other suspects should stand trial "in full view" of the public.

"We believe this is the appropriate thing to do," Axelrod said. "We feel strongly that justice will be done here, and frankly it's been a long time in coming. A lot of these cases have been delayed for many, many years."

RIO - Torcedores do Fluminense disseram ter sido agredidos por policiais militares e guardas municipais junto à rampa da Uerj, num dos acessos no Maracanã para o jogo da noite deste domingo contra o Atlético-PR. Torcedores contaram que camelôs vendiam cerveja perto do estádio, o que é proibido por lei. Só que, segundo as testemunhas, os guardas municipais já chegaram agredindo os ambulantes. Alguns torcedores então tentaram defender os agredidos e foram reprimidos pelos guardas, o que gerou mais confusão.

Ainda de acordo com os relatos, PMs chegaram para controlar a situação e houve mais agressões. Na briga, um torcedor desmaiou. Colegas disseram que os policiais se recusaram a socorrê-lo. Foi quando outros torcedores o colocaram num táxi para que fosse levado ao hospital. As informações são de que o torcedor desmaiou devido a pancadas que teria levado.

Duas cabines da Polícia Militar no Rio são atacadas por bandidos

RIO - Duas cabines da Polícia Militar no Rio foram atacadas por bandidos, no início da manhã deste domingo. O primeiro ataque foi ao posto da Linha Amarela, por volta das 5h30, na pista sentido Barra da Tijuca-Fundão, na altura de Bonsucesso. Os disparos atingiram as paredes da cabine e a lataria de uma viatura estacionada no local. Mais tarde, por volta das 6h, um posto da Companhia Independente da Polícia Militar, na Avenida Brasil, perto da saída da Linha Amarela, também foi alvejado. Os bandidos jogaram uma granada contra os policiais.

Integrantes do Esquadrão Antibombas detonaram o artefato por volta das 10h30. Segundo o inspetor Cassiano Martins, a granada é do tipo defensiva M4, de uso exclusivo das Forças Armadas. No momento da detonação, policiais tiveram que fechar por alguns minutos a pista lateral da Avenida Brasil, no sentido Centro.

Segundo policiais que estavam de plantão na Avenida Brasil, os criminosos estavam armados de fuzis e chegaram a saltar do carro para jogar a granada sem o pino. A arma, porém, não explodiu na hora do ataque.

Estes não são os primeiros casos de ataque a cabines da PM. Em outubro passado, um posto da PM em Botafogo foi assaltado e o policial teve a arma roubada. O Rio de Janeiro tem 109 cabines, sendo 11 blindadas. Desde novembro de 2008, houve pelo menos três ataques a postos da PM: além do de Botafogo, foram atacados postos na Praça da Bandeira e no Cosme Velho.

A secretaria de Segurança começou em agosto a contruir novas cabines blindadas. . A primeira a ser reformada foi a do Elevado Paulo de Frontin. A cidade ainda vai ganhar mais 40 postos de policiamento com paredes reforçadas contra tiros. A previsão é de que a maioria seja instalada na Zona Norte, onde há maior incidência de crimes.
